The cases featured on this website are narratives of citizen-driven initiatives that involve citizens in the measurement of government performance. Each case is presented in three formats:
NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS COUNCIL - SAN FRANCISCO, CA
ParkScan is a project of San Francisco's Neighborhood Parks Council. It teams dedicated volunteers and user-friendly technology to help the City, the general public, and park advocates communicate more effectively. ParkScan has begun to demonstrate measurable improvements in park upkeep in the parks where surveys are being done.
Volunteers in a number of neighborhood parks around the City are rating the condition of their parks and are achieving measurable results!
Park groups learn to use mobile technology to survey their park. Volunteer observers rate a uniform set of park conditions using handheld computers and digital cameras. This observer team is rating conditions in their park. Their observations and their priorities help managing agencies determine how to achieve measurable improvement in park upkeep.
ParkScan is being introduced to more neighborhood parks every day as we begin our City-wide rollout. To find out which parks are now on board, please click on 'View Surveys'.
Individual citizens can also register comments about their neighborhood parks at the ParkScan website. Just click on 'Send Comments About a Park' and follow the instructions.
